Artist Statement
Bright whimsical paintings capturing mindful moments of presence with nature. I aim to explore the sensation of being present in a moment through relationships of colour, forms discovered from nature and negative white space. Flower petal colour inspires my bold, saturated and luminous colour palette. Writing accompanies each painting as I write to document my experiences with mindful moments in nature. It is my hope that my paintings become a like a gentle messenger encouraging others to reconnect with beauty in nature and hearten the viewer to slow down, pace and live in the moment.

“Feet rooted on the front lawn where I practiced exhilarating cartwheels repeatedly until I became dizzy. My palm flatly pressed against the old maple tree for balance, I can feel the deep grooves of bark. Looking upwards at my oldest friend, my gaze slowly makes its way down the tree trunk and my eyes need a moment to adjust from the bright vivid sun. As I redirect my eyes, I Am captivated by the sunlight performing a dazzling dance on the rudbeckia and echinacea. I become mesmerized by the vibrant golden glow of autumn, the last colour of the season.”

“The atmosphere offered quiet and I quickly seized the moment as quiet is rather elusive in this urban neighbourhood of reconstruction. Leaves turning burnt orange in colour were beginning their descent downwards. The sun was brilliant and warm for November, highlighting the finger sized deep grey grooves in the old maples bark. I stood with my camera above head pointed directly upwards parallel to the sky, steadying my balance on the tree. My eye focused on narrowing tips of tree branches pointing towards the bright blue sky like a blackboard pointer a teacher uses on a black chalk dusty chalkboard. Back to ground, my eye was drawn to purple asters dancing in the sunlight with a the gentle breeze.”
